In 2024, the Sunnyside Shines Business Improvement District was awarded the NYC Department of Small Business Services Public Realm Grant.

Sunnyside Shines asked the Queens Lighting Collective to design an innovative and welcoming lighting gesture to bring Greenpoint Avenue to life at night - making it safer and brighter, as well as bringing more shoppers to the commercial corridor. 

The team worked through several iterations of the design, developing a vision that would be striking from a distance, create an inviting and colorful atmosphere at street level for pedestrians, be conscious of traffic safety, and respectful of light pollution for neighboring residents. QLC is excited to continue developing lighting elements for our community, taking ongoing inspiration from our neighborhood. We were especially delighted by our first collaboration with Mobile Stages, who were enthused about reimagining what street lighting could be - a productive and affirming thought partner the whole way.
